Cortney and Fred had a beautiful wedding despite the rainy day we had. They got married at St. Matthews by the Sea in Fenwick Island, DE. This church is truly a diamond in the rough. You would never think by driving by it that it is so pretty on the inside.

The reception was held at the Roxana Fire Hall in Roxana, De. Cortney really did an awesome job of decorating the reception hall so if you need any ideas, check out their full album at www.photosbyhollyblood.com. it rained for most of the day but when it did stop, we were able to sneak out side for some night portraits of Cortney and Fred.

Beth and Nate got married on the most popular wedding date of 2011. Their ceremony was at Grace United Methodist Church in Georgetown, DE and their reception was at the Frankford Firehall, in Frankford, DE. This church is so pretty and really has that small town church feeling with plenty of seats. The stained glass windows are vibrant and the outside of the church is ideal for pictures as well. Between the ceremony and the reception we stopped at the railroad tracks that were a minute away from the Firehall.
We snagged some great pictures on the tracks and in front of some old barns for the rustic feel to match their engagement photos. Enjoy some photos from their day!

I have known Paige for a long time so I was really excited when she contacted me to do their engagement photographs. They picked Ocean City as their location and I always love doing sessions here. It was a bit of a hazy, humid day but I think that added to their images. We had a lot of fun despite the heat and humidity and now the rusty tower that I photographed them in front of is no longer their thanks to Hurricane Irene. I met this super sweet bride to be at a bridal show right before she got engaged. Her mother is a local wedding planner. I got a call from her soon after that show and she had just gotten engaged. She was excited to get their engagement photographs done and wanted something rustic looking for her scenery. I knew just the place- Pemberton Park, in Salisbury. I think I hit the nail on the head with this location and what she had in mind, they are such a sweet couple and her Fiance is the perfect gentleman. Jessica and Jim chose one of my favorite locations for an engagement session- Lewes, De. At this location, we do half the session in downtown, using all the little shops, walkways, and cute scenery as backgrounds- then for sunset we hop in the car and go to Lewes beach. This particular night we were very skeptical that there would be a sunset. It was cloudy and overcast the whole day but we did the session anyway. It was a good choice because this was definitely the most beautiful sunset I have seen at Lewes Beach. I can't wait to do their wedding in September! Here are a few shots from their session.

Mindy decided to have a small family wedding in Fenwick Island, DE. She rented out a house for a week and had her reception right there at the house. They got married right on the beach (thank god the rain held off) and everything was so quaint and simple.
They hired a caterer that was AMAZING! Toscana Catering from Wilmington, De catered her reception and I was amazed by the food. If you are looking for a caterer, definitely check them out.

Michelle and Scott! 6/11/11

Michelle and Scott had a beautiful summer wedding at the Grace United Methodist Church in Georgetown, De and had their reception at the Cheer Center in Georgetown. They say a little rain on your wedding day is good luck, well these two will have luck for a long time. It poured during the ceremony but luckily the sun came out and we did some portraits on the circle. The Cheer center is an awesome place to have a reception. It is so spacious and there are many options for decoration. Congrats Michelle and Scott!

I started out with this family from their engagement, was privileged to photograph their wedding, a family portrait and now a newborn session for their first born! Little Jackson came to my studio and was an awesome little model.
He had a hard time staying asleep for us but he was still super pleasant.

Trash the Dress!!

I was so excited when Kelsey (my bride from AZ) came to me and said she wanted to do a Trash the Dress session....getting up and being at the beach at the crack of dawn, well, I wasn't so excited about that- but it was all worth it in the end. I always hear people say "why would you want to trash your dress" Well in this case, Kelsey was going to pay $250 to have her dressed cleaned anyway, so why not get her moneys worth? Plus, its not like she was going to be rolling around in paint and mud, she just wanted some shots of her and her husband on the beach. Being that it is the beginning of June we weren't quite sure the temperature of the water. It was actually surprisingly warm for the beginning of June (yes I got in the water as well- anything to get that shot I want) I was in the water waste deep- I was more concerned about my camera getting wet to be honest. She told me what she had in her head, and from her reaction to the photographs, I think I made her visions become a reality. Here are some of the images we captured that day.

Casey and Eric get engaged! Ocean City, MD

The first thing Casey said to me is that she wanted Sunset photographs done for her engagement session, and I knew the perfect place to go- Ocean City, MD. We did half of their session on the Oceanside and then once the sun started to set, we drove over to Northside Park on the Bayside (where the winterfest of lights are) and did the rest. Its unusual that I get wedding inquiries from the groom, but in this case, it was the groom, Brian that did most of the planning. I met this couple for a consultation and we hit it off right away. They were so laid back I knew we would work well together.
Their ceremony was at Ebenezer U.M.C on Polly Drummond Road in Newark, Delaware. This was a very nice church and very easy to get to. Their reception was at the Embassy Suites in Newark right across from the Bob Carpenter Center at U of D. I just loved the inside of this hotel. It had a glass elevator which made for some nice (and fun) photos. The food was excellent. The cocktail hour was held in the lobby area in the middle of the hotel and then there was a completely separate room for the entire reception. The staff was awesome and very accommodating. I would highly recommend this hotel as a reception spot to anyone. Here are a few of the shots from the day.

Baby Bumps!

I met this sweet family two years ago and did their family beach portraits. Now they are expecting little bundle of joy number two and I had the privilege of doing their maternity photos and watching their family grow! We chose to do these portraits at Pot Nets Lakeside in Long Neck. I love doing portrait sessions here because there are so many pretty areas to work with. There is always such beautiful landscaping and they also have a lake with a bridge that takes you out to a gazebo in the middle of the lake. Its a gorgeous spot for any portrait session.

I met Cortney and her mom at the Ocean City Bridal Show and we seemed to click right away. Her and her fiance, Fred, wanted their engagement pictures done down at the inlet area of Ocean City, Maryland. I am a huge beach bum so this was right up my ally. It was pretty crowded down there that night, Springfest was gearing up to start that weekend, but we still managed to find some cute spots for pictures. Here is a few from their session:

My first destination wedding!

I can't begin to tell you how much of a good time I had during this whole wedding weekend. I flew out on a Thursday to Phoenix, Arizona to meet up with my husband (who was in Vegas with the groom since Monday for his bachelor party) to start off this wonderful event. My husband was actually a groomsman in this wedding, so when the bride asked me to either do the photography or be a guest, it was a no brainer. Thursday night was her bachelorette party. We got to ride around in a party bus and bar hop in Tempe. Friday was the rehearsal dinner which I normally don't attend, but I am glad I did because it gave me a chance to scope out some nice portrait locations so I didn't have to think on the fly the day of the wedding. The wedding and reception was held at Sunridge Canyon Golfcourse in Fountain Hills, AZ. It was a gorgeous setting for a wedding and everyone had a blast. Amanda and John's Engagement!

Amanda and her Fiance John chose to have their engagement session at Pemberton Park in Salisbury, MD because they wanted that rustic look incorporated into their images. This was definitely the right spot for that as it has some really neat old barns and wooden fences. Their wedding will be in November at the Nassau Vineyard in Lewes, Delaware which I am really looking forward to. I love a nice and cool fall wedding and I can't wait to photograph the sweet couple at the vineyard on their big day. Congrats Amanda and John!

First Wedding of 2011!

My first wedding of the year was a great one! One of my husband's closest college friends, Shawn, was getting married to his longtime girlfriend, Nora. They met while doing a missionary trip around the world. He proposed on their 3 year anniversary and I was stoked when they asked me to do their wedding photos. The ceremony and reception were both at the Pheasant Run Bed and Breakfast in Lancaster, PA. This is a great location for a smaller sized number of guests. You can either have your celebration inside or outside. In this particular case, Nora decided to have everything inside, as it was still a bit chilly and windy the day of her wedding. The location is awesome for photography. The actual house is beautiful and has that old Lancaster feeling. There were many locations outside and around the house to take pictures but the chill kept us from being out there too long. One last wedding for the year! Tish and Mark

Tish and Mark called me a couple weeks before their wedding and I was thrilled that I was not already booked the day they needed me. They got married in the Atlantic Hotel, in Berlin, Maryland. You may remember this hotel from the movie "Runaway Bride" starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. Berlin is about 20 minutes away from me so this was a location I was familiar with. They had a small intimate ceremony in one of the rooms in the hotel and had their reception in the same room. There were only about 30 guests, which was perfect for this location. The staff was very friendly, letting us roam about the hotel to get some portraits of the bride and groom alone after the ceremony. Being late December, it was really cold out, so we only got a few shots outside the hotel. I loved the atmosphere in the hotel. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas, with trees and pine on the mantles. I would really recommend this hotel for a small wedding to someone. Here are a few shots from their day. Since I have no more weddings booked for this year I can start to concentrate on Christmas portraits! A friend of a friend contacted me to do some portraits of her children for Christmas presents and she picked Pemberton Park in Salisbury, Maryland as the location. This location has lots of fun spots and nice scenery for portraits and I can't wait to go back there again.

Jason and Nena's Wedding

Jason and Nena were married at St. Johns AUMP Church in Chester, PA. This church is very special to this couple because Jason's father is the pastor and this is his church! It's always nice when a family member can perform the ceremony. It was one of most beautiful ceremonies I have ever been to (besides my own of course lol)
There is one word to describe this church, AMAZING!It was beautiful inside and out!
Their reception was held at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Wilmington. The whole bridal party got ready at the hotel and then they were taken to the church in a limo separately. It was only about a 15 minute drive from the hotel to the church. After the ceremony we did some family formals at the church then headed over to the Sheraton for cocktail hour and the reception. The staff at the Sheraton was great. Megan is the coordinator I worked with and she is super friendly. The bridal party had their cocktail hour in a separate room, with a champagne toast and lots of delicious finger foods while the guest had a cocktail hour right outside the ballroom where the reception was held with the same foods and bar.
Nena made a special request to take advantage of the cityscape and lights in some of their portraits so after they finished eating, I stole them away for a bit to go outside and get exactly what she wanted. We got a ton of great shots from this wedding (I guess I had to make up for lost time) so I have a bunch of favorites. Here are a few from their special day. Beth and Nate- Engaged!!

Super cute, fun loving couple Beth and Nate picked the Ross Mansion in Seaford, Delaware for their engagement photos. I've known both of these wonderful people since I was very very young, elementary school to be exact, so I was really excited and honored when they contacted me to do their wedding. I can't wait for their big day to arrive, which is set for an neat date of 9.10.11! The Ross Mansion is such a beautiful place, very fitting for such a beautiful couple! Back to the grind as they say, so off to the beach I went to do Jason and Nena's engagement session. These two lovebirds met while in the service. I went to college with Jason and he is truly one of the nicest people I have ever met. Nena is one lucky lady! These were taken at Bethany Beach, my favorite beach spot for engagement and senior sessions. I can't wait for their wedding next month, I feel like I am going through withdrawal since I haven't shot a wedding since July!

I am currently taking some time off from weddings and portrait sessions to recover from my surgery and stay home with our little one but I can't stay away from the camera and now that I have a new model, I have a reason to be in the studio. Here is Jaxon's first portrait done at 8 days old and a shot of him and his daddy all dressed and ready for the Eagles game. Check back for monthly portraits and a chance to watch him grow. At least he will have alot of pictures of himself for keepsakes right?

I had a little boy, Jaxon Arthur Blood via C-Section on September 11, 2010 (my husbands birthday AND his due date!!) at 2pm. He weighed 7lbs 9oz, 20 inches long, healthy and perfect! September 11th has now become an even better date in our little family. Who would have thought he would actually arrive on his due date?

Delaware Professional Photographers Print Competition

As part of my membership with the Delaware Professional Photographers, I enter the quaterly print competition to try to get "merits" towards my degree with Professional Photographers of America. I won't bore you with all the rules and technicalities but here is what a print is judged on.

There are three judges and when your print pops up (after the title is read) they enter in their score and the average of their scores is what you get. If you score an 80 or above, you get a merit. There are many more technicalities with the judging process that I won't get into but its hard because its purely opinion. One judge could think the image has impact and the other doesn't agree. I try to enter as many competitions as I can to make me a better photographer. Its been a frustrating process but here is one image of mine that did merit, yay!

Suprise!!!!! My baby shower!

I headed out of the house today, dragging my husband along to be my assistant, THINKING I was doing a maternity session in Pot Nets Lakeside. To my surprise, a whole bunch of my family and friends were waiting for me in the community center ready to throw me a baby shower. My mom was really slick, having one of her pregnant co workers call me and schedule a maternity session (so I didn't schedule anything else that day) which was really smart. I got a TON of great stuff. The theme was Winnie the Pooh (the theme I picked out for the baby's room) so there was lots of Pooh stuffed animals, wrapping paper and everything else that could possibly have Pooh on it. My mom really did an AWESOME job throwing my shower. This just makes it more real that I am going to be a mom within a month.

Korryn- Class of 2011

Korryn is a senior this year at Snow Hill High in Maryland. We hit it off right from the start, her being a fellow softball player. She also plays volleyball and is in the Marjorettes. The weather was cool that night (for once) and she was so easy to work with. It made for an awesome shoot. I wish her all the luck in the world in her senior year and as she makes her decision on a college and what she wants to do in life.

A close friend and college roommate wanted me to do some beach portraits of her step daughter and son before it got too late in the summer, so out to the beach we went! Sarah and Daryl's Wedding

This is going to be my last wedding before I go on maternity leave! I will miss doing weddings but I am also relieved because as I get later into my pregnancy (32 weeks today), being on my feet running around getting shots is starting to take a toll on me. I will still be booking and shooting portrait sessions for a little longer, just not weddings.
Sarah and Daryl are from Connecticut but Sarah's parents live right in Camden-Wyoming, Delaware. They decided to get married at the same church as Laura and Jeremy, Holy Cross Catholic Church in Dover.
Their reception was under a tent in the backyard of Sarah's grandparents house. Their reception was catered by The Essential Chef out of Lewes, Delaware. The food was excellent and they even had an iced tea and lemonade station as well. It was one of the hottest days of the summer so I kept hydrated with the delicious lemonade.
After the ceremony, we did some family formals in the church, a few intimate portraits of the newlyweds, then everyone filed over to the reception site. On the grandparent's and neighbor's property was one of two covered bridges in the whole state of Delaware, so we HAD to take advantage of the unique scenery and get some shots in it. Sarah's grandparents also had a gigantic weeping willow tree and I saw a great opportunity for a neat shot (see below). Despite the heat, it was a great day and great way to end my wedding photography until November. Here are some shots from their big day. The rest can be seen in the Sarah and Daryl gallery.

Angeline and Michael's Wedding

Angeline and Michael were married at Fagar's Island in Ocean City, Maryland. The ceremony was supposed to take place outside on the restaurants private beach, but a bad summer storm rolled in so it was inside on the second floor of the restaurant where the reception was held. This was a great spot for a small guest list, which they had, so it worked out perfectly. The 2nd floor had its own bar and three walls of windows over looking the Bay with a wrap around balcony for people to go out on. We got lucky enough for the rain to stop for some outside shots after the ceremony. I took them out to the Gazebo in the middle of the bay and got some pretty shots before the rain started up again. Victoria contacted me after she saw me do a family member's wedding. She is due about 3 weeks ahead of me so it was nice to chat with her during the session and compare stories and experiences. Victoria is having a baby girl and they are going to name her Elena.
Victoria also picked downtown Dover, Delaware, for their maternity pictures. Her husband, Rob, is in the service and she got to surprise him when he came home from overseas with the news of their pregnancy. Kelsey and David- Engaged!!!

Despite the heat and the storm, I photographed close friends Kelsey and David engagement session last night in downtown Salisbury. Part of it in the library, which was a ton of fun, something totally different than I have ever done, and the other part in Downtown Salisbury. A wedding slated for April 30, 2011, this will be my first destination wedding, in Flagstaff, Arizona.(and first trip to Arizona) I can't wait! It is going to be a blast.

Laura and Jeremy's Wedding

Laura and Jeremy were married at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Dover Delaware and their reception was at the Middletown Fire Hall, in Middletown, Delaware. This church is absolutley beautiful. It has a huge stained glass window right behind the altar, making a beautiful backdrop to the ceremony and pictures. The church itself is very spacious inside, making it easy for photographers to move about without disturbing the guests or getting in the way.

Laura and her girls got ready at a nearby hotel in Dover. Jeremy and his guys got ready right at the church. After the ceremony we did some family formals in the church and then a few shots of the bridal party outside. We did some portraits of the newlyweds in the church and outside of the church.

I was pleasantly surprised by Middletown Fire Hall. It was very nice inside with a huge ballroom and a separate room off to the side for the buffet table and the bar. As you walk into the firehall there are some antique firetrucks which were pretty neat as well. Laura had her reception set up where the dance floor area was in the middle and all the guest tables surrounded the dance floor. They sat at a sweetheart table at one end of the dance floor. The staff at the fire hall were awesome, keeping everything stocked and clean and they were really friendly. This was by far the nicest fire hall I had ever been in. There was no sunset that night for me to use for some pretty portraits but we still managed to get some cute intimate shots of the newly weds. Christina and Kyle's Wedding

Christina and Kyle were married at the beautiful Heritage Shores Golf Course in Bridgeville, Delaware in front of the pavilion behind the clubhouse. It was a nice sunny day in June. The reception was held inside their big ballroom, which has a stage where the DJ was set up. I really enjoyed photographing this wedding here. The venue and staff was great. Both the bride and her girls, and the groom and his guys got ready and dressed here. It's nice to have everything in one spot (especially for me, being 28 weeks pregnant) but for older guests as well.
The scenery is outstanding! We took family formals on the second floor outside on the deck of the clubhouse (out of the sun) which had excellent lighting and it was close to the air conditioning. After the bride and groom ate their meal, I stole them for a few sunset shots out on the golf course. I wish I had more time with them out there because there is so much scenery to use. Baby Blood 3D at 28 weeks

Today before my wedding, my mom took me to Salisbury to get a 3D ultra sound of baby Blood. This was one of the coolest things I have ever seen. We got to watch the baby move around, make facial expressions, even smile! I am so curious to find out whether its a boy or a girl but I am glad we decided to wait. Not too much longer til we meet the little bundle of joy. Here are some of my pictures from the ultra sound. The last picture is a maternity shot that was done at a photography workshop that I attend every month. They decided to use me as a subject and I was excited to get some maternity shots done.

A Beach Family Session

Summer is always busy with family beach portrait sessions. I have my favorite spot in uptown Ocean City where I always take my family portraits so when the Hurleys, and extended family members called me, thats the first spot I recommended. I loved their color selection, the guys were in black and the girls in pink. It made for a really nice picture. We had a brief downpour right in the middle of the session but it didn't last long so we were able to get a great family shot in right before the rain. The downpour even brought a beautiful rainbow that we all got to enjoy.

Mid Atlantic Regional School of Photography, that is. I just got back from spending a week in the quaint Cape May, NJ for my third year in a row. A week filled with cameras, reflectors, posing and lighting. I studied under one of the most awarded wedding photographers in the country, Tom Munoz. He and his beautiful wife, Erika, taught us new techniques and showed us how he photograhs a wedding. It was the most inspiring class I have ever taken. I came home with so many new ideas that really took my photography to the next level. He even took some time to take a couple maternity shots of me! Here are some pictures from the class.

Laura and Jeremy- Engaged!!

I really enjoyed photographing Laura and Jeremy, because you can really see the chemistry the two have between them. Laura picked the the downtown Dover area for her engagement photos, which was a great choice. There are so many cute spots for photos there I could have spent another couple hours photographing everything. Here are just a couple of the cute shots we got that day.

Christina wanted a beachy style for her engagement pictures and I was happy to oblige. I told her about my favorite spot down in Bethany Beach and she was sold on the idea. The day was pretty windy so we had to fight the wind and sand blowing around but we still managed to get some great shots.

Jaime and Steve- Engaged!!

One of my closest friends and college roommate, Jaime, recently got engaged during her Valentine's trip to NYC. We only thought it was appropriate to do an engagement session right in NYC! This was my first session in the Big Apple so I was really excited. We did alot of walking and ended up doing alot of shots right in Central Park. We didn't get to go as many places as I wanted (note to future clients: bring flats for in between locations- haha) Jaime's poor feet were killing her by the end of the session. We were still able to get some neat shots and capture NYC's Central Park in the early spring.

Candlelight Bliss

The very next weekend was Meridith and Ryan's big day. March 20, 2010- A ceremony slated for 7pm, well after the sun had set- Meridith opted for a beautiful candlelight ceremony at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Clayton, De. The Bridesmaids wore little black dresses matched with beautiful red rose bouquets.
The reception was held at the Landings Club, inside the Dover Air Force Base. The Landings Club was deceiving from the outside. The brides father is in the service, which is the only way to have your celebration inside the base. A night filled with good food, friends and loving family made for a fun event. The couple now lives in Atlanta, Georgia. Here are a few of their pictures from their big day:

St. Pattys Day Green Wedding

The first wedding of the year was at a super cute church in Slaughter Beach, DE on March 13, 2010. Kandace and Daniel were united in marriage on a bit of a rainy afternoon. Good news is, it did clear up later in the day for a couple shots outside on the steps of the church, steering clear of the muddy landscape. Plus, a little rain on your wedding day is for good luck right?

The reception was held at the Slaughter Beach Fire Hall where the groom is a firefighter. Lots of enthusiastic friends and family danced the night away celebrating Kandace and Dan's wedding day. The couple shared their first dance to "All I Ever Needed Was You"

It was a beautiful day, despite the small amount of rain for good luck, and I wish them all the best in the world. Here are a few photos from the day:

Im Pregnant!

Yes, thats right, there is another Blood on the way! I am currently 12 weeks pregnant with our first child. I am due on September 11, which just so happens to be my husbands birthday! We are very excited, as are our parents! We are doing it the old fashioned way and we are going to wait until the baby is born to find out the sex. Photographing weddings while I am very pregnant this summer should be interesting. Thank goodness I have a great assistant! Sonogram pictures to come soon!

The crazy holiday season

Well its that time of year again. This year I am super busy with Christmas orders and sessions. I finally had a chance to post my honeymoon images. I added them to my site if you want to take a look and escape to the Hawaiian Islands for a couple of minutes.

I recently had the pleasure of doing a wedding in a beautiful church in Selbyville, De. Kendra and Greg were married on 11.7.09 at the Salem United Methodist Church and their reception was held at the Cheer Center, in Georgetown, Catered by Georgia House (one of my favorite restaurants in the area. The coordinator at the church was great, let me and my assistant photograph from some really cool spots in the church that made for great pictures.

It was a beautiful day, which made for awesome pictures outside the church (to go along with Kendra's fall theme) and by the cute little lake at the Cheer Center right at sunset.

I love working a wedding at the Cheer Center. The Georgia House staff does an awesome job on the food and the venue is so spacious, giving guests plenty of room to have a good time. I always utilize the stage in front of the dance floor to get those shots of the bride smiling at her handsome groom during their first dance, or the tears in the eyes of the father as he dances with his little girl. (In my case, it was me doing all the crying)

Unfortuneately, I am done weddings for 2009. I am excited that I already have quite a few booked for 2010 already! I will be working in my studio for a few months until the cold weather makes it way outta here. I am also excited about a few baby hats I just purchased from a great person named Monique at http://www.mudpiesandpigtails.com/ I look forward to using them for Christmas pictures and newborn sessions, so look for those teasers to come soon. My first blog!

After a long time of avoiding the blog world, I finally broke down and gave in. I guess I will start my first blog as an introduction to myself and tell you a little about my life, other than photography. Here is a short version: born in 1983 in Philadelphia, moved to "slower lower" Delaware when I was 4, and started playing softball at the same age.

Graduated high school in 2001 and continued my softball career at Goldey Beacom College on a softball scholarship, in Wilmington, De. I graduated from GBC in 2005 with a degree in Accouting Info Systems. I had a brief stint living in Wilmington after I graduated but I couldn't stand being away from the beach, my family, and my new boyfriend at the time.

I now work full time as a biller for a company in Millsboro, DE and I live in Fenwick Island. I JUST took the big plunge on October 10, 2009 (thats a picture of me and my hubby in our fancy limo on our wedding day) It was the best day of my life. I married the guy who had a crush on me since our first day at college together, but waited for me to come to him til after we graduated college. He sat back and watched as I dated all the wrong ones, being an awesome close friend, until I finally came to my senses. Funny how things turn out. God couldn't have sent a better match to me than him.

We leave for our honeymoon tomorrow and we are going on a Hawaiian Cruise for a week. I will post lots of photos when I get back.

I will mainly use this blog to post teaser pics from sessions, my experiences with clients, other vendors, etc. So check back for updates. I can really relate to you brides to be out there as I just went through the planning experience myself. I planned my entire wedding myself so if you girls have any questions out there, let me know!
